The Real Pilates Story

Real Pilates was founded in Dubai in 2009 by husband-and-wife team Reza Alavi and Bita Riahi, opening its first studio at Palm Strip Mall in Jumeirah at a time when Pilates was still relatively niche in the UAE market.

Originally coming from a corporate consulting background, Reza Alavi launched the business after struggling to find high-quality Pilates instruction locally. Bita Riahi has led the educational side of the company, overseeing the studio’s STOTT PILATES® Academy, which operates as the only licensed training center of its kind in the Middle East.

Over the last decade, Real Pilates has expanded into multiple Dubai locations including Jumeirah, JLT, and Meydan, while also becoming one of the region’s largest Pilates education providers. Through its academy, the company has trained thousands of instructors who now work across studios throughout the UAE and wider Middle East.

What to Expect From A Real Pilates Session

A session at Real Pilates is designed to be calm, structured, and technique-focused. Classes are delivered using the full STOTT Pilates apparatus range, including reformers, stability chairs, barrels, and mat equipment, with a strong emphasis on alignment, control, posture, and breathwork.

Expect detailed instruction and a slower, more precise training style compared to high-intensity modern Pilates concepts. Coaches regularly provide corrections and modifications, making sessions suitable for both experienced clients and those focused on rehabilitation, pre- and postnatal training, or long-term movement quality.

The Reception Service

The reception experience was a clear strength and set a positive tone for the visit. We were greeted promptly, acknowledged as first-time visitors and guided through the process in a calm and organised way. Check-in was handled efficiently, with a waiver completed and a full orientation provided, including the layout of the studio, changing areas and where to wait before class.

The interaction felt structured and supportive throughout. Communication was clear, and there was a good balance between efficiency and engagement, with use of our name adding a personal touch. After class, there was a follow-up conversation with clear explanations of packages and options, delivered in a helpful and informative way. The overall journey felt well managed and consistent from arrival through to departure.

The Class Experience

The class was delivered in a focused and professional way, with strong technical coaching throughout. Instructions were clear and easy to follow, and the session flowed smoothly from start to finish. Once the class began, there was a good level of individual support, including hands-on adjustments and clear guidance, which helped build confidence during the workout.

There was less emphasis on group interaction and onboarding at the start, with no clear introduction to the session structure or acknowledgement of first-time participants before the class began. The coaching style remained more technical than social, with limited effort to build energy across the room. However, there was good awareness of injuries and follow-up after class, and overall the session was well delivered and supportive where it mattered most.

The Equipment And Studio

The studio environment was bright, spacious and well organised. There was plenty of room to move comfortably, and the layout supported the flow of the class well. Equipment was clean, neatly arranged and of a high professional standard, with everything set up to support a range of ability levels.

The space was well maintained throughout, with clean finishes and a fresh feel across floors, walls and ceilings. Lighting worked well for the training environment, and design details such as inspirational quotes added character and reinforced the identity of the studio.

The Facilities And Public Areas

The public areas were clean, organised and easy to navigate. The reception space created a strong first impression, with a polished design and quality finishes that gave the studio a professional feel. The overall layout was straightforward, making it easy to move through the space without confusion.

Changing areas were well maintained, with clean showers, neatly arranged amenities and functioning hairdryers. Lockers were conveniently located and easy to use. There were a few practical limitations, including no toilets within the studio, no towels provided and limited food and beverage options beyond a water refill point. Despite this, the space remained well presented and comfortable to use.

Digital And Technology

The digital experience was smooth and easy to navigate. Booking could be completed directly through the website, with a clear and efficient process that allowed us to reserve and manage classes easily. Confirmation was received promptly, and cancellation policies were communicated clearly.

The website was well designed and aligned with the brand, with clear class descriptions, schedules and coach profiles available. Social media channels were consistent and regularly updated, supporting the overall experience well. Pre-arrival guidance was limited, and email communication remained quite simple in tone, but overall the system was reliable and easy to use.
